Begich Responds to Stevens’ Opposition to GI Bill

As promised, here's Mark Begich's response to comments related to Sen. Ted Stevens opposition to the 21st Century GI Bill in today's Anchorage Daily News [1]:

“I was disappointed to see that Senator Stevens' veterans plan is to skimp on college benefits in order to force our troops to stay in Iraq rather than get an education. Apparently Ted Stevens thinks today's veterans need to sacrifice more to get less.

Our veterans are giving 100% in Iraq, Afghanistan, and everywhere else they have been asked to serve by our country. We need a Senator who will give Alaska's veterans 100% in return - nothing less will do.

That's why I'm proud to stand with 57 senators, 234 members of Congress, VoteVets, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, the VFW, American Legion and many other veterans associations in support of the 21st Century G.I. Bill. "

For more information about the wide array of veterans groups and legislators that are fighting for full benefits for today's veterans, visit the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America's website [2].
